The Paluxy sand is the workhorse formation in Parker County, generally producing better-quality water than the alternatives nearby. The deeper Twin Mountains formation yields strongly but tends to run harder and higher in minerals, and it outcrops close to the surface across western Hood and Parker County — meaning shallower wells, and often more iron, toward Lipan, Millsap, and the west side of Weatherford. Knowing which formation a property sits on changes how deep to drill, what pump to size, and what water treatment will actually solve the problem.
That knowledge extends to the paperwork. Both counties sit inside the Upper Trinity Groundwater Conservation District, and every new well has to be registered with the district before drilling — minimum tract size, property-line setbacks, and spacing from other wells all apply.
